Hey, y’all! I always love bringing my yearly gift guides to you – and today marks my last one: my Kentucky Foodie Gift Guide 2021. While it’s getting close to Christmas, I think foodie gifts are the perfect last minute option for your loved ones, as they are often easier to pick up. Apart from that: who doesn’t love receiving a food item?
Kentucky Foodie Gift Guide 2021
A Food Gift From Amish Country: Hart County, KY
Whether it be an Amish made jelly/jam, a goodie from Farmwald’s, or a copy of Flour and Grace by Valerie Kuhns, one of the Amish’s favorite cookbooks — a food-centered gift from Hart County is sure to please!

Woodstock Lavender Co.: Gourmet Lavender Syrup
Y’all, this lavender syrup is fabulous! It can be added to lemonade, cocktails, mocktails, coffees, lattes, and even baking mixes. It is available from Woodstock Lavender Co. in Somerset, KY (the Lake Cumberland region — where I am from).
Woodstock Lavender has a new subscription box coming out in January called the Purple Spoon. The box will include culinary items from the farm + recipes. Join the waitlist here.
Ruth Hunt: Kentucky-made Candies
Based in Mt. Sterling, Ruth Hunt is a Kentucky landmark. It began as a labor of love in the kitchen of Mrs. Hunt, as she loved making sweets for her bridge club. However, in 1921, it became a business — the same business that Kentuckians know and love today. The options are endless, though I have some favorites. Ruth Hunt Turtles, affectionately called “Derbies”, feature their handmade caramel, pecans, and are covered in rich milk chocolate. Their cream candy is equally as divine, as it features heavy whipping cream and butter. They promise it tastes “just like your Grandmother made”. Shop here.
Ale-8-One: The Gift Of Kentucky’s Soda
Launched in July of 1926, Ale-8-One is the only Kentucky-invented soft drink still in existence. It was invented by G. L. Wainscott and was named via one of America’s first slogan contests at the Clark County Fair. “A Late One” – the winning entry – was a pun adopted for its witty description. From that, a Kentucky legacy transpired. Tie a bow around a pack of Ale-8s and you have a festive, delicious gift!
Sunhouse Craft: Kentucky-made Sushi Board and Chopsticks
Who doesn’t love sushi? Spice up your sushi game with this Kentucky-made sushi board and chopsticks from Sunhouse Craft in Berea. Made in the rolling hills of Appalachia, the wooden wares are handmade and simply gorgeous. Their work is a true embodiment of Appalachian craft! Shop here.
Angel’s Envy: The Gift of Kentucky Bourbon
Is there a better gift than KY Bourbon? And one of the best is made right here in Downtown Louisville: Angel’s Envy. The 2021 Cask Strength Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Port Wine Barrels – the tenth annual Cask Strength whiskey from the brand – is a limited-edition release and is my gift of choice this season.
Profile: notes of cherry, honey and crème brulee – creamy, indulgent and worth savoring. Packaged in a carved, hardwood display box.
Looking for a smaller gift? The Henderson Kit features the brand’s Port Syrup and signature glass. Just add bourbon and bitters to create the distillery’s signature Henderson cocktail.
Both are available for purchase at the distillery: 500 E Main St, Louisville, KY 40202
Rivulet: Louisville’s Artisanal Pecan Liqueur
Rivulet® Artisan Pecan Liqueur is handcrafted in Louisville, KY. Rivulet starts with a 2-year-old, barrel-aged brandy. They then use a proprietary process to obtain the exquisite pecan essence, which I know y’all will love. It’s a deep flavor — one that is signature to the brand — and I can’t get enough of it. To find out where you can buy Rivulet, click here.
Ouita Michel’s Cookbook: Just A Few Miles South
Chef Ouita Michel’s first-ever cookbook, Just a Few Miles South: Timeless Recipes from Our Favorite Places, is full of recipes for popular menu items at Windy Corner Market, Wallace Station, The Midway Bakery, and other Chef Ouita restaurants in Central KY. All recipes are scaled and tested for home use. Is there a greater gift than a look inside of the kitchen of Kentucky’s First Lady of Food? Purchase here.
Give Kentucky foodie gifts this year for the holiday season, y’all! They are sure to be the hit of your gift-giving extravaganza.
Y’all come back now, ya hear?
